How to read your result
A worked example
A price rising from €80 to €100 increases by 25%. Falling from €100 to €80 is a 20% decrease because the starting value is different.
How it is calculated
A proportion divides the part by the whole. Percentage change divides the difference by the starting value. Increases and decreases apply a percentage to the reference amount.
Common mistakes and limitations
Check the denominator. A move from 2% to 3% is one percentage point, but a 50% relative increase. Division by zero is undefined.
