A worked example
1 GB is 1,000,000,000 bytes. One GiB is 1,073,741,824 bytes, so 1 GB is about 0.9313 GiB.
How it is calculated
Decimal units use powers of 1,000; binary units use powers of 1,024. Both families are labelled explicitly.
Common mistakes and limitations
B denotes bytes; b commonly denotes bits. This tool does not convert network bit rates. Usable storage may also be reduced by formatting.
